Week of June 1

Summer on the Mount:

Let’s spend the Summer on the Mount.  Live Oak’s Summer series will dive deep and dig into the longest recorded sermon of Jesus, the Sermon on the Mount, found in Matthew 5-7.  It’s only 100 verses, but it is rich, insightful and even surprising as Jesus teaches us about what the Kingdom of God is like.

LIVE OAK CONNECTION POINT:
Joining our Summer Small Group might be the next step for you this summer! It will be 9 weeks through June and July, and a great way to connect to Christ and community this summer! Sign Up at Sign Up & Events on our App & website or right HERE.

READ: Matthew 4:1-25, 5:1-2

Spend some time SOAPing this passage. You can either spend time SOAPing individually and documenting for a several minutes and then spend time sharing with each -OR- SOAP in real time with each other. Either way make as many observations as you can.

  • Observations: What are the things that stand out to you about this passage?
  • Now spend some time on a few sections of this passage:

READ: Matthew 4:17.

  • What stands out to you from this very brief sermon Jesus gave to start His earthly ministry?

READ: Matthew 4:18-22.

READ: Mark 3:13-14.

  • What are your observations about Jesus calling His first disciples?

  • Doug pointed out that Jesus began to teach when the crowds and His disciples leaned in with holy curiosity to learn from Jesus.  What are your best practices you might use for engaging Scripture this Summer for the purpose of Jesus teaching you and leading you?
  • What does it look like for you to respond to Jesus’ invitation to “follow me” right now in this season of life?
  • Where do you sense that God might be CALLING you to be SENT by Him on mission for the Kingdom of God?
  • What else stood out from this week’s sermon?
  • APPLICATION: What is your big takeaway from this week’s sermon?  Be specific.
