Getting Into God’s Word – 2 Timothy 3:16-17Getting into God’s Word on your own can be challenging, but it is important that we learn how to engage with Scripture.  Getting into God’s Word helps God’s Word get into us.


LIVE OAK CONNECTION POINT:
This weekend we return to our usual 3 services times at 8:30am, 10:00am and 11:30am.  It’s Palm Sunday and Doug will bring a message called “Voice From the Cross.”

DISCUSSION/REFLECTION QUESTIONS:

  • What was a highlight of the past week?
  • What is one thing that has helped you engage with the Bible?  A tool, app, practice or person?
  • What is a Bible verse or passage that has meant a lot to you lately?
  • What do the following verses and passages tell us about God’s Word?  Read and discuss one passage at a time:
    • 1 Thessalonians 2:13
    • Hebrews 4:12
    • Isaiah 40:8
    • Matthew 4:4
    • Colossians 3:16
    • Romans 10:17
    • Revelation 1:3
    • Acts 17:11
    • Psalm 119:9-11
    • Psalm 1:2-3
    • 2 Timothy 3:16-17
  • Spend some time in a passage to SOAPS and then APPLY it.
    READ: Psalm 19

    • Spend some time SOAPing this passage. You can either spend time SOAPing individually and documenting for a several minutes and then spend time sharing with each -OR- SOAP in real time with each other.Either way make as many observations as you can. 
    • OBSERVATIONS: What are the things that stand out to you about this passage?
    • How would you summarize this passage in one sentence?
    • What does this passage tell me about who God is?  What is your “God shot”?
    • What does this passage tell me about who I am?
  • Doug shared the S.P.A.C.E.P.E.T.S. tool and the S.P.E.C.K. tool for APPLICATION. Using the S.P.E.C.K. tool, what are the applications that could be made from Psalm 19?

S = Sin(s) to avoid or confess.

P = Promise(s) to claim.

E =Example(s) to follow OR avoid.

C = Command(s) to obey.

K = Knowledge about who God is AND/OR  knowledge of who I am in Christ.
